These drinks were originally designed for athletes who lose large amounts of electrolytes through sweat. They weren’t meant for daily consumption by the general public. When it comes to daily hydration, the goal is simple: drink enough water to stay properly hydrated. On average, aim for 8 to 12 ounces every hour, especially during hot weather. If you work in high temperatures, you’ll need even more—perhaps 12 to 16 ounces every couple of hours before starting your day.
A great way to check your hydration levels is by looking at the color of your urine. Light yellow indicates good hydration, while dark, concentrated urine means you need to drink more. Other signs of dehydration include dry mouth, cracked lips, drowsiness, headaches, and extreme thirst. If you experience any of these, it’s time to increase your water intake.
