Experts warn ABS resin manufacturers that “the 11th Five-Year Plan” will face four major bottlenecks

At the Fourth China ABS Resin Technology Symposium held on August 31, Yang Weicai, vice president of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association and president of the China Engineering Plastics Association, alerted the ABS resin manufacturer when analyzing the industry situation: "Eleventh Five-Year" period, ABS resin production will face four serious problems.
First, the raw material bottleneck. During the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period, although CNPC and Sinopec newly built or expanded a batch of styrene and acrylonitrile plants, most of them also arranged such projects as polystyrene, styrene-butadiene rubber, and acrylic in the downstream. Raw materials for ABS resins Limited, most companies still need a lot of imports. As oil prices continue to rise, the petrochemical industry has entered a period of high oil prices, not only the quantity of styrene, acrylonitrile, butadiene, but also the price will become the bottleneck in the development of ABS resin.
Second, environmental protection constraints. In the production process, not only the waste water and waste gas needs to be treated, but also discharges in compliance with standards, clean production, and in the process of modification and processing of ABS resin, it is also necessary to avoid environmental pollution caused by additives such as flame retardants (including heavy metals and halogens). Recently, the European Union proposed that production companies should assume the obligation to recycle used electronic products and plastics in household appliances. This undoubtedly increased production costs and increased corporate social responsibility.
Third, technology competition. The challenge of traditional bulk process technology to conventional processes, modified PP and high-impact PS, and other challenges to traditional products make it impossible for manufacturers to continue to develop all kinds of special materials, expand the scope of use, and reduce costs so as to avoid difficulties.
Fourth, standard convergence. Our products must move closer to international standards and gradually be brought into line with international standards, so as to break through the limitations of foreign technical trade barriers on our products.
It is understood that in the past five years, the domestic market demand for engineering plastics has been developing at a rate of 25% to 30% each year. In 2003, China became the world's first consumer country, while the domestic production of the top five engineering plastics can only meet about 15% of the demand. Synthetic resins mainly rely on imports. Although the output of ABS resin in the domestic market has grown from 299,000 tons in 2000 to 915,000 tons in 2004, an average annual increase of 41.2%, it is still far behind the increase in demand.
