Dalian Chemical Research Institute has developed a low-cost, high-power density all-vanadium flow battery stack

[ Instrument R&D ] Recently, the team of Li Xianfeng and Zhang Huamin of the Energy Storage Technology Research Department of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences successfully developed a new generation of 30 kW low-cost all-vanadium flow battery stacks.
The stack uses a weldable porous ion-conducting membrane independently developed by the research team (cost <100 yuan/m2). Compared with the traditional battery assembly technology, the actual area of ​​the membrane material is reduced by 30%. In the assembly process of the new generation of stacks, the research team changed the traditional assembly method and applied laser welding technology to the stack assembly process for the first time, which greatly improved the reliability of the stack and also increased the automation of stack assembly Degree, the use of sealing materials is reduced, and the total cost of the stack is reduced by 40%.
The research team once proposed the ion screening conduction mechanism without ion exchange groups, introducing the porous ion conductive membrane into the battery (Energy Environ. In recent years, Dalian Institute of Chemical Technology has made a series of technical breakthroughs in high-performance, low-cost key materials for flow batteries, stack technology and mass production, and design and integration of large-scale energy storage systems. It has cooperated with related companies to complete a number of commercial demonstrations. In the project, 200 MW/800 MWh all-vanadium flow battery energy storage system is under construction.
