As seen around … Herscher, IL – 4/11/22

On April 11th, the Pilot Township Fire Department (Herscher Fire) was called to respond to a structure fire. Just moments before the alarm went off, a cigarette was carelessly discarded near an open propane canister, which led to a sudden explosion. The fire quickly spread, causing damage to a nearby home and a fence. Multiple departments were dispatched to the scene, including Herscher Fire, Limestone Township Fire, Salina Township Fire, Essex Fire Department, and the Reddick Community Fire Department. Firefighters worked swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.

The incident serves as a reminder of how dangerous even small acts of negligence can be. A simple discarded cigarette near flammable materials led to a serious fire that required multiple fire departments to respond. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, but the property damage was significant. Local firefighters praised the quick response and coordination between all the agencies involved.
