Working fire in Gary, 7-25-15

From what I’ve gathered so far, this seems to be a quick account of an incident that unfolded earlier today in Gary, Indiana. It all happened rather fast—around 1:45 PM local time on Saturday (July 25). From the sound of things, there was a fire that broke out in one of the apartments, and it was dealt with pretty efficiently by the firefighters. I just got off the phone with Eric Haak, who sent over some photos he took during the event. He mentioned that the fire was under control within about ten minutes. One of the images shows Engine 4 arriving on the scene, marked as “5,” while another was snapped exactly ten minutes later, showing Truck 1 already in action. Attached are several shots that really capture the intensity of the situation. You can see thick smoke billowing from the apartment windows in some of the earlier photos. In others, you’ll notice firefighters braving the smoke as they move into position or check for any remaining threats. There’s even one where a firefighter is seen performing an overhaul, making sure everything is secure after the blaze has been extinguished. There’s also a couple of wide shots featuring the equipment used by the Gary Fire Department. You’ll see their ladder truck and engine clearly in the mix, standing tall amidst the chaos but ready to assist. It’s clear these guys know their stuff because, based on what Eric said, the whole thing was handled swiftly without much fuss. Overall, it’s good to hear that no major damage occurred, and everyone involved stayed safe. These kinds of incidents remind us how important our emergency services are, especially when they respond so effectively like they did here.
