Where Are Massey Ferguson Tractors And Combines Made?
Massey Ferguson, founded in 1953 through the merger of Canadian farm equipment manufacturer Massey-Harris and the British company Ferguson, has become one of the world’s leading tractor brands. Today, it is part of AGCO Corporation, a global leader in agricultural machinery.
The brand operates eight manufacturing facilities across the globe, producing tractors in Beauvais (France), Changzhou (China), Canoas and Mogi das Cruzes (Brazil), and combine harvesters in Breganze (Italy) and Santa Rosa (Brazil). Its products are distributed through a vast network of dealers worldwide.
The story of Massey Ferguson began in 1847 when Daniel Massey established the Newcastle Foundry and Machine Manufactory in Clarington, Ontario. Over time, the company evolved into Massey Manufacturing Co., known for pioneering mechanical threshers. In 1891, it merged with A. Harris, Son and Company to form Massey-Harris Limited, becoming one of the largest farm equipment manufacturers globally.
By 1910, Massey-Harris had expanded internationally by acquiring the Johnston Harvester Company in New York, marking its first overseas acquisition.
In 1930, Massey-Harris introduced its first tractor, the 20-horsepower GP 15/22. The following years saw the launch of the Pacemaker (1936) and the Model 101 (1938). It was also among the first to develop a 4WD tractor, showcasing its commitment to innovation.

In 1938, engineer Tom Carroll invented the first self-propelled combine, the Massey-Harris Number 20. Though not mass-produced due to complexity, this breakthrough laid the foundation for future models like the Number 21 in 1940.
During World War II, Massey-Harris shifted production to support the Allied forces. It manufactured tanks, artillery vehicles, and tractors for the U.S. military, including the M5 Stuart, M24 Chaffee, and M41 Howitzer Motor Carriage.
After the war, the company introduced the triple series tractors, featuring power steering, live PTO, and improved hydraulics, setting new standards in the industry.
In 1997, Massey Ferguson became part of AGCO Corporation, which has over $9 billion in annual sales. AGCO operates under five core brands—Fendt, Challenger, GSI, Massey Ferguson, and Valtra—and distributes its products through 3,150 dealers in over 140 countries.

Over the years, Massey Ferguson has broadened its product range to include high-horsepower tractors, advanced combine harvesters, balers, windrowers, planters, and more. These innovations reflect its ongoing dedication to agricultural efficiency and performance.
AGCO has worked to integrate Massey Ferguson's operations with other brands like Fendt and Valtra, enhancing cost-efficiency and synergy across the supply chain. Several factories share resources, improving production capabilities.
Today, Massey Ferguson runs eight global manufacturing sites, each playing a vital role in the company's success:
