Sustainability in Action: Autodesk commits to 100% renewable energy

By Lynelle Cameron, Senior Director, Sustainability

It’s time to act. Today marks the release of our 7th sustainability report, Sustainability in Action 2015. But as we face growing global challenges, it’s clear that reporting on progress isn’t enough — we need real, measurable change.

That’s why today, I’m proud to announce that Autodesk is committing to power our entire business with 100% renewable energy. This decision reflects not just our values, but a growing recognition that climate action is no longer optional — it’s essential.

I believe 2015 will be a turning point. Individuals, companies, governments, and investors are finally coming together to address climate change with urgency and purpose. Climate change is one of the most urgent issues of our time, and it demands collaboration across all sectors. By making this commitment, we’re helping to drive the momentum needed for meaningful global action.

Our journey toward sustainability has been marked by steady progress. Over the past year, we’ve:

  • Launched new sustainability-focused tools for buildings, infrastructure, and manufacturing.
  • Expanded our Cleantech Partner Program into China, one of the fastest-growing clean tech markets.
  • Founded the Autodesk Foundation, an initiative dedicated to supporting design-driven solutions to global challenges.
  • Earned our 19th LEED certification, covering 32% of our office space.
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 27% since 2009, staying on track with science-based targets from C-FACT.

With every step forward, we aim higher. Committing to 100% renewable energy isn’t just about reducing our carbon footprint — it’s about driving systemic change. We’re working closely with conservationists, industry leaders, and policymakers to scale renewable energy in a way that benefits both people and the planet.

This December, the world will come together at COP21 in Paris to shape a new climate agreement. It’s a moment that could define the future of our planet. As part of this movement, Autodesk has joined RE100, a global initiative led by The Climate Group, to support corporate climate action ahead of the conference.

We’re also inspired by the leadership of local governments, like California, which are pushing for sustainable development and innovation. In San Francisco, where we’re based, the city is setting ambitious climate goals, and we’re excited to collaborate with mayors around the world to build resilient, sustainable cities and clean transportation systems.

Finally, I want to thank our customers — they are the true innovators in this space. From WindPax’s affordable clean energy solutions in developing countries to QBotix’s solar tracking technology, their work shows what’s possible when design meets purpose.

The future of making things must be built within planetary boundaries. That’s why we’re committed to 100% renewable energy. Join us in shaping a more sustainable world.
