New ambulance in Winnetka

This is from Larry Shapiro:

Winnetka has received a new ambulance, now designated as Ambulance 28. According to reports, this was one of the last units built by Medtec before they ceased operations. The ambulance is a Type I model mounted on a 2012 IHC 4300 chassis and carries Medtec shop order number 26264-1.

Winnetka Fire Department Ambulance 28R

This is now Ambulance 28R (noted by a small ‘R’ next to the number 28). It’s a 2007 Type I Medtec on a Freightliner M2106 chassis. Larry Shapiro photo

The former Ambulance 28R was a 2000 Type I Road Rescue on a Freightliner FL70 chassis, which was later sold to the Antioch Fire Department. With the arrival of the new unit, the department continues to modernize its fleet while preserving some of its older models for other uses or training. These updates are always exciting for local fire and EMS enthusiasts who keep a close eye on such changes.
