MABAS Division 3 dive drill

This past week, many local fire departments took the opportunity to conduct ice dive training in frozen bodies of water, taking advantage of the milder weather conditions. The MABAS Division 3 Dive Team held their drills at the Underwriters Laboratories campus in Northbrook, where experienced divers practiced critical rescue techniques under real-world conditions. Tim Olk was on-site capturing the action and shared a few powerful images from the event.

The training involved multiple stages, including pre-dive briefings, equipment checks, and simulated rescue scenarios. Each team member played a vital role in ensuring the safety and success of the operation. Divers were seen entering the icy water while others monitored from the surface, ready to assist if needed.

These exercises are essential for maintaining readiness in cold-water rescue operations. Firefighters must be prepared to respond quickly and efficiently in unpredictable conditions, making regular training a crucial part of their routine. The photos captured by Tim Olk offer a glimpse into the dedication and professionalism of the Evanston Fire Department and its partners in emergency response.
