Hey everyone,
I wanted to share some important updates about the Waukegan Police and Fire Memorial Fund, which was established back in 2017 by members of both the Waukegan Police and Fire Departments. This 501(c)(3) organization was created with the goal of supporting the families of our fallen colleagues—both on-duty and off-duty—who tragically pass away while serving as active sworn members.
In the unfortunate event of a loss within our ranks, the fund aims to offer immediate financial assistance to the affected families. Beyond that, we want to ensure these families continue to feel connected to our police and fire family. That's why we plan to send small gifts during birthdays and Christmas to the surviving children. Additionally, we'll present larger gifts when each child reaches 8th grade and high school graduation. While these gestures may seem modest, our primary objective remains clear: to let families know they're not alone and remain an integral part of our community.
Unfortunately, last year's event had to be put on hold due to the pandemic. However, we're excited to announce that this year's fundraiser is back! On September 9th at 7:30 PM, we’ll be hosting comedian Michael Winslow—famous for playing Sgt. “Motor Mouth†Jones in the Police Academy films—and his friends at the Genesee Theatre. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to the fund. To add even more excitement, we’ll also be selling exclusive Waukegan Police and Fire Memorial Fund patches for $10 each. Each patch comes with one raffle ticket for a chance to win a luxurious getaway at a Lazy Haven Cabin in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. The lucky winner can choose from three available dates: January 10-14, January 17-21, or January 24-28.
