On the afternoon of April 24, 2019, firefighters from Rolling Meadows were dispatched to 2905 W. Algonquin Road following reports of smoke inside the building. The affected location turned out to be the Egg’lectic Café. As the situation escalated, the initial alarm was upgraded to a Code 4, and later, a MABAS Box Alarm was called when flames were detected in the attic. Fortunately, the fire was confined to the attic area and did not spread further.
The response included multiple units from various departments. Among them were Rolling Meadows Fire Department’s Engines 15 and 16, along with their ambulances 15 and 16. Battalion 15 and the department chiefs were also on site. Palatine Fire Department contributed Engine 84, Tower 84, Squad 85, Battalion 8, and two chief officers. Arlington Heights had Engine 2, Engine 3, Tower 1, Ambulance 3, and a chief officer present. Palatine Rural Engine 36 and a chief officer were also part of the response team. Schaumburg sent Engine 52 and Squad 55, while Elk Grove Township had Engine 11 on scene. Other assisting departments included Elk Grove Village Engine 10, Mount Prospect Tower 13, Buffalo Grove Ambulance 25, and a Rosemont ambulance.
I managed to capture some photos during the incident. In one image, you can see fire trucks staged at the scene, ready for action. Another shows Palatine FD’s Tower 85 as it stood by. There's also a shot of firefighters working to ventilate the commercial building’s roof. Rolling Meadows FD Engine 16 is visible with its lines off, preparing for firefighting efforts. Additionally, there’s a picture of Schaumburg FD firefighters who were covered with insulation after completing their overhaul duties.
As the situation unfolded, the collaborative effort between these departments was crucial in containing the fire. It was impressive to witness how quickly and efficiently the teams worked together to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Despite the chaos, the professionalism of all responders was evident throughout the operation.
Currently, I’m looking through more images, and I plan to share a few more highlights from the event. If you're interested in seeing more, let me know, and I’ll make sure to post additional photos soon. Stay tuned for updates!
