Commercial fire in Rolling Meadows, 4-24-19

This past Wednesday afternoon (April 24, 2019), firefighters from Rolling Meadows responded to 2905 W. Algonquin Road following reports of smoke inside the building. It turned out to be the Egg’lectic Cafe that was affected. As the situation escalated, the initial alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 and then further to a MABAS Box Alarm when flames were detected in the attic. Thankfully, the fire was confined to the attic area, preventing further damage. A partial list of the responding units included Rolling Meadows Engines 15 and 16, along with their respective ambulances 15 and 16, as well as Battalion 15 and the department chiefs. Palatine sent over Engine 84, Tower 84, Squad 85, Battalion 8, and two chief officers. Arlington Heights contributed Tower 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Ambulance 3, and a chief officer. Palatine Rural Engine 36 also dispatched a chief officer. Schaumburg sent Engine 52 and Squad 55, while Elk Grove Township had Engine 11 on site. Additionally, Elk Grove Village had Engine 10, Mount Prospect had Tower 13, Buffalo Grove sent Ambulance 25, and Rosemont had an ambulance present. The images below, captured by Larry Shapiro, provide a glimpse into the extensive efforts made by these firefighting teams. From the staging of fire trucks to the challenging task of ventilating the commercial building's roof, it’s clear how coordinated and resourceful these responders were. Even after the fire was under control, some Schaumburg firefighters were still covered in insulation from the overhaul process. I’ve included a few thumbnails here, but there are many more photos showcasing the impressive teamwork and dedication of these emergency personnel. [Show slideshow] The sequence of events was swift, and it’s inspiring to see how quickly these departments mobilized to handle such a delicate situation. While the Egg’lectic Cafe suffered some damage, thanks to the firefighters' quick actions, the impact could have been far worse. It’s moments like these that highlight the importance of having skilled professionals ready to act in emergencies. Their bravery and professionalism never go unnoticed.
