Linear Introduces Adjustable Shunt Regulator

Linear Technology has introduced a new version of the LT1431's highly reliable MP grade that operates from a junction temperature range of -55°C to 150°C. The device has 100mA current sink capability, 0.4% initial reference voltage accuracy, and ±1.4% maximum voltage drift across the entire temperature range. A built-in voltage divider resistor allows the LT1431 to be configured as a 5V shunt regulator. By adding two external resistors, the output voltage can be set to any value between 2.5V and 36V. The 100mA nominal internal current limit can be reduced by using an external resistor.

The active output circuit provides a very accurate turn-on performance, making the device an excellent replacement for Zener diodes in many applications (eg built-in regulated, adjustable power supplies, and isolated switching power supplies). The LT1431 MP grade device is housed in a SO-8 plastic package.
