During the second phase of the special intellectual property protection campaign for the auto parts industry organized by the Guangzhou Intellectual Property Office, it became clear that while the Guangzhou Auto Expo was a hot topic, the issue of intellectual property protection in this booming sector is equally, if not more, concerning. During an inspection, reporters noticed that only a small number of auto parts displayed patent marks, and even fewer had the corresponding certificates available. This reflects China’s current situation—strong external forces but weak internal protection mechanisms. According to an official from the Guangzhou Municipal Intellectual Property Office, most patents related to automotive products are controlled by global leaders. Foreign auto giants have filed numerous patents in China and are gradually gathering evidence to accuse local companies of infringement. The risk is high, and they are waiting for the right moment to act. If companies in Guangzhou don’t quickly raise their awareness of patent protection, some may soon face long-term lawsuits from competitors. In response, Wu Yuejing, director of the Guangzhou Intellectual Property Office, stated that the main goal of this campaign is to crack down on counterfeiting and imitation, based on a large-scale survey of patented products in the auto parts market. At the same time, through education and guidance, the awareness of intellectual property rights among auto parts operators will be improved, helping to build a sustainable and healthy development mechanism for the industry. Wu emphasized that the purpose of law enforcement actions is not merely to investigate and punish, but to use these actions as a means to ultimately protect, support, and promote growth. Through planned rectification efforts, the market environment can be purified, independent innovation can be protected, and the auto parts industry can develop healthily, thereby effectively supporting the auto industry as a key pillar of the economy.
