SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — On July 9, 2018, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) announced its acquisition of Assemble Systems, a Massachusetts-based company known for its cloud-based platform that streamlines construction workflows through BIM data integration. The move is part of Autodesk's ongoing strategy to enhance digital tools for the construction industry, making project management more efficient and data-driven.
Assemble Systems offers a SaaS solution that helps construction professionals process, analyze, and connect BIM data across key areas such as bid management, estimating, scheduling, site operations, and financial planning. This technology will eventually be integrated into Autodesk’s BIM 360 platform, a cloud-based tool designed to support collaboration across all stages of a construction project.
Andrew Anagnost, President and CEO of Autodesk, welcomed the Assemble Systems team into the Autodesk family, emphasizing the importance of digitizing the construction sector. “We are connecting project data from design through construction, creating the cloud-enabled tools necessary to make the preconstruction phase more predictable and profitable,†he said.
The integration of Assemble Systems’ capabilities with BIM 360 aims to improve automation in preconstruction, which plays a crucial role in setting the tone for the entire project. By leveraging BIM, teams can achieve better visibility, productivity, and collaboration throughout the construction lifecycle.
Don Henrich, CEO of Assemble Systems, expressed excitement about the partnership. “Autodesk is an AEC technology leader and was our majority investor in our Series A funding last year. We’re excited to join Autodesk and continue making BIM data more useful across construction workflows.â€
With over 174 unique customers, operating across nearly 1,000 sites and working on 12,700 projects—including one-fourth of the ENR 400 list—Assemble Systems has already made a significant impact in the industry.
This acquisition is expected to have no material impact on Autodesk’s 2018 guidance. While the financial terms were not disclosed, the deal was financed using a combination of cash and stock, with Autodesk committing to offset the issued shares through its stock repurchase program.
Looking ahead, Autodesk remains focused on transforming the construction industry through innovation and digital solutions. The company continues to invest in technologies that support collaboration, efficiency, and sustainability in construction projects worldwide.
