Film Testing:
The specimen is placed between the upper and lower chamber. The upper chamber is flushed with high-humidity nitrogen, while the lower chamber is flushed with dry nitrogen. Due to the water concentration gradient across the specimen, water molecules pass through it into the dry side. These molecules are carried by the gas stream to the infrared sensor, which generates a proportional signal. This signal is then used to calculate the water vapor transmission rate.
Package Testing:
The package is mounted on the lower chamber. The outside of the package is maintained at a specified relative humidity, while the inside is flushed with dry nitrogen. Water vapor passes through the package wall into the internal chamber, where it is detected by the infrared sensor, allowing for accurate measurement of the water vapor transmission rate.
