This message comes from Lt. Greg Zahn of the Waukegan Police Department. The Waukegan Police and Fire Memorial Fund, established in 2017 as a 501c3 organization, was created by members of both the Waukegan Police and Fire Departments. The primary aim of this fund is to offer financial support to the surviving spouses and children of our colleagues who lose their lives while serving, whether on or off duty. In such an unfortunate event, the fund ensures immediate financial aid for the family. Additionally, it provides modest gifts during birthdays and Christmas for the children and bigger presents for their 8th grade and high school graduations. Our goal is not just about giving material support, but also ensuring these families know they remain integral parts of our police and fire family.
Last year, due to the pandemic, we had to pause our annual fundraiser. However, this year, we’re excited to invite you to a night full of laughter with comedian Michael Winslow, best known as Sgt. “Motor Mouth†Jones from the Police Academy movies. The event will take place at the Genesee Theatre on September 9th at 7:30 pm. All ticket sales will directly benefit the fund, and we’ll also be selling custom Waukegan Police and Fire Memorial Fund patches on the night of the show. Each $10 patch comes with one raffle ticket for a chance to win a stay at a Lazy Haven Cabin in Gatlinburg, TN. There are three available dates: January 10-14, January 17-21, or January 24-28. You can choose from several cabins.
