In addition to their new apparatus, the department recently completed an impressive restoration of their historic 1925 Stoughton pumper. According to local firefighter and photographer Mark Gaunky, the vehicle was saved from being scrapped by retired Lieutenant Jim Carew, who led a complete frame-up restoration. Over 75% of the original parts were retained, making this one of the most authentic restorations of its kind. The pumper features a 350 GPM pump and carries 150 gallons of water.
Originally donated to the village by Cardinal George Mundelein as a gesture of gratitude for renaming the town to the Village of Mundelein, the engine served the community for over two decades. The original purchase price was $7,500, and the restoration cost reached $65,000—showcasing the dedication of those who preserved this piece of local history.
