The Mundelein Fire Department’s Station 2 in Division 4 has recently welcomed a brand-new 2010 Sutphen 1500/500 75-foot mid-mount quint. This modern apparatus is fully equipped with a complete set of Hurst tools mounted on the front bumper, two tool reels, a PTO generator, and is certified for Advanced Life Support (ALS) operations. The unit is a significant addition to the department's fleet, offering advanced capabilities for both fire suppression and emergency medical response.

In addition to the new quint, the department has also made headlines with the full restoration of their historic 1925 Stoughton pumper. According to local firefighter and photographer Mark Gaunky, the truck was saved from being scrapped by retired Lieutenant Jim Carew, who led a complete frame-up restoration. Over 75% of the vehicle remains original, making it a rare and valuable piece of fire department history. The pumper features a 350 GPM pump and carries 150 gallons of water, and it was originally donated to the village by Cardinal George Mundelein as a gesture of gratitude after the town changed its name to the Village of Mundelein.
The original cost of the pumper was $7,500, and the recent restoration came at a price of $65,000. Despite its age, the engine served the community for over 20 years before being taken out of service. Now, it stands as a tribute to the department’s long and proud legacy.
