Homewood Acres FPD update

Dennis McGuire, Jr. dropped by the Homewood Acres Fire Department recently, bringing along some photos and details about the station. He shared that although the department isn't fully operational yet, they're making great strides. Training is currently underway, and they already have 15 dedicated volunteers ready to serve. One of the highlights he mentioned was the sale of the old Engine 1932, a 1972 Ford-John Bean model, to a collector in Grant Park, Illinois. This vehicle, which has had quite the history—serving previously with X-East Joliet FPD, X-Holbrook FPD, and X-Glenwood FPD—is set to leave tomorrow morning (May 30th). The buyer plans to keep it in Grant Park and drive it occasionally to his pawn shop in Flossmoor for promotional purposes. Interestingly, this Ford model runs on gasoline. Over its years of service, it accumulated quite the legacy. In contrast, the new Engine 1932, a 1985 Ford/Pierce model from Plainfield, Illinois, is still awaiting its final touch-ups. There's some discussion among the team about whether they should paint it or leave it in its pristine white color. Another notable update is that the older Ford vehicle from Country Club Hills was scrapped a few months back. In its place now stands a 1986 Mack/Ward 79 pumper from Burbank, Illinois, formerly known as Engine 208. Dennis also shared a particularly striking image showing all three vehicles lined up together—a rare and memorable photo that captures the evolution of their fleet. As of May 29, 2012, the Homewood Acres Fire Protection District's current fleet includes these three impressive rigs. The dedication and hard work of everyone involved are truly commendable, and it won't be long before they’re fully prepared to provide top-notch emergency services to their community. Here’s hoping for continued progress and success for the Homewood Acres Fire Department!
