Excerpts from the Kane County Chronicle:
The Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District board is expected to appoint a new chief of operations during a special meeting on August 25th. Board President Jim Gaffney mentioned that the person being appointed will not replace Chief Greg Benson, who has been leading the district since 2011. Instead, the new appointee will focus specifically on the operations at the district's two fire stations. According to Gaffney, the district is attempting to separate these roles to ensure specific tasks can be achieved more efficiently.
Gaffney didn't disclose the identity of the new appointee but stated that they would be introduced at the upcoming meeting scheduled for 6:30 PM at Station 3, located at 34W500 Carl Lee Road in St. Charles Township. The agenda for the meeting includes the appointment of the chief of operations, an introduction, and the approval of the associated contract. The new chief of operations is set to begin work on August 26th.
The Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District operates out of two locations: one in St. Charles Township and another along Route 64 in Campton Hills. They serve approximately 25,000 residents over an area covering 38 square miles that includes parts of Wayne, Campton Hills, and St. Charles Township.
Thanks, Dan.

Excerpts from My Suburban Life:
Greg Benson, who has served as the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District’s chief since its inception in 2011, plans to retire by the end of October. The district made this announcement in a recent press release, noting that it had previously functioned as a 'paper district,' outsourcing services to the city of St. Charles.
In preparation for Benson's retirement, the district has named Carl DeLeo as the new chief of operations. DeLeo will handle all matters related to safety, including supervision of the fire stations and the firefighting staff. Gaffney explained that the title 'chief of operations' was chosen to allow flexibility in case the district ever wishes to hire someone exclusively for administrative duties.
Carl DeLeo brings 30 years of experience to his new role, having retired from the Lisle/Woodridge Fire Protection District as a captain. His extensive background in firefighting makes him a strong candidate for this leadership position within the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District.
This transition marks an important milestone for the district as it continues to grow and refine its operational structure. It remains committed to serving the community effectively while adapting to future challenges and opportunities.
