Chicago Fire Department: Truck Companies over the years. Part 2

Martin shared some interesting insights into the history of Chicago Fire Department's truck units over the years. Thanks go out to Squad546 for letting me post these photos and details. It's always fascinating to see how firefighting equipment has evolved. Here's a look at some of the older trucks that have served the department: The former Truck 1 used to feature a Hendrickson/Pierce/Morita combination, which was a massive 135-foot apparatus. After modifications, the "elevator" system was removed. Truck 5 from 1972 was a classic Mack/Pirsch setup, known for its reliability and performance during its service years. Then there was Truck 12, built in 1982 with a Hendrickson/E-One 100-foot ladder. This truck was a workhorse for many years before it was eventually retired. Truck 16 had a 1978 Seagrave model, featuring a rear-mounted aerial ladder that provided excellent reach during operations. Truck 19 came along in 1988 as an E-One/Federal hybrid, boasting an impressive 110-foot aerial platform. Even Truck 24, originally a 1970 Seagrave model, underwent a major refurbishment in 1990, giving it a new lease on life. Finally, Truck 42 from 1982 featured a Hendrickson/E-One collaboration, another testament to the evolving design and technology of firefighting vehicles. These images really bring back memories of how far we've come in terms of fire safety and equipment. The dedication of those who maintained and operated these rigs is something truly commendable. Special thanks again to Squad546 for sharing their collection.
