10,000-ton straw oil plant is expected to reach production

The bio-refinery equipment developed by Anhui Energy Bio-Energy Co., Ltd. has successfully passed the technical appraisal organized by the Anhui Science and Technology Bureau on March 6th, marking a major milestone in China's renewable energy sector. The system is currently undergoing final improvements and fine-tuning, with operations running smoothly as of yesterday. The company expects to fully achieve its designed capacity of 10,000 tons annually. Experts have praised this breakthrough as China's first large-scale industrial bio-refinery, opening new pathways for green energy development and offering significant economic and environmental benefits. The "YNP-1000A Biomass Pyrolysis and Liquefaction Unit," developed by Anhui Easy Energy, has been recognized as the country’s first industrialized device for producing oil from straw. It incorporates several independently developed technologies, reaching international standards in performance and efficiency. The device was tested after years of research, starting with a pilot plant in July 2007 that processed 550 kg per hour (3,000 tons per year), leading to the full-scale production unit. After multiple rounds of testing and optimization, it received positive feedback from expert panels. According to the company, the device has now entered the market, with its industrial production base established in the Hefei Yushan Economic Development Zone. The person in charge of Anhui Yineng Company explained that the technology was based on research results from the University of Science and Technology of China in 2006. With continuous improvements, the system has proven capable of meeting the 10,000-ton annual target. Recent tests conducted by the Anhui Province Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute confirmed that the device can produce approximately 10,000 tons of bio-oil per year, with an oil yield rate of 51.9%. The energy content of the biofuel reaches 16 MJ/kg, making it a viable alternative to traditional fuels. The system produces about 50% bio-oil, 20% combustible gases, and 20% plant ash as by-products. The gases are used to power the facility itself, achieving energy self-sufficiency with surplus electricity available for sale. The company is actively exploring ways to connect this excess power to the grid. Meanwhile, the plant ash serves as high-quality organic fertilizer, which can be returned to farmland, enhancing sustainability. Professor Yu Hanqing from the University of Science and Technology of China highlighted that China is now among the few countries to achieve industrial-scale biomass-to-fuel technology, joining the Netherlands and Canada. With a 10,000-ton capacity, Anhui Energy's bio-refinery has positioned China as a global leader in this emerging field. This development not only strengthens China’s energy security but also contributes to a greener future.
