Tire giants may reduce Thai rubber use

Senior Thai government officials have revealed that tire giants such as Michelin and Bridgestone have said that if Thailand does not increase the quality of rubber, it will reduce the import of rubber from the country.

After the news came out, Thai Agricultural Cooperatives began to urge Jiaonong to take measures to reduce the use of sulfuric acid in rubber latex to ensure the stability of the rubber market. According to reports, elasticity is an important condition for ensuring high-quality tires. The addition of sulfuric acid reduces the quality of the latex and also affects the life of the rubber tree. This position of the tire manufacturer caused the Thai government to worry about rubber prices. In the past few years, due to the serious drop in rubber prices, local rubber and rubber processing plants have experienced a decline in revenue.

Somchai Channarongkul, an official at the Ministry of Agriculture of Thailand, said that the department has taken quick action to provide assistance to farmers in the northeastern rubber-producing area to reduce the amount of sulfuric acid used to maintain the Thai rubber export market. An expert from the Thai Rubber Research Institute stated that, in fact, for many years, the Thai Ministry of Agriculture has been disabling the propaganda and guidance of sulfuric acid when tapping rubber.

In recent years, the drop in oil prices has prompted global tire companies to increase the use of synthetic rubber, which has affected the sales volume and price of natural rubber. To this end, Thailand, which is a major rubber-producing region, has taken various measures to stimulate rubber consumption in order to maintain normal rubber prices.
