It's been quite a day here in the Chicago suburbs. I just got this message from Martin Nowak:
"This picture was sent to me by someone who captured it during the storms yesterday around 5 PM. It happened near the intersection of 77th Street and Roberts Road in Bridgeview when lightning hit a transformer."
Here’s what the scene looked like after the strike:

And then I heard from Larry Shapiro about another incident in Buffalo Grove. He mentioned that firefighters were called to 414 Manchester Court shortly before 3 PM due to a reported structure fire. Turns out, a lightning strike caused damage both on the exterior of the building and slightly extended to the second floor.
Check out these images from the scene:

The damage was primarily focused on the outside of the building:

When Engine 26 arrived, they quickly had two lines operational. Here's how things looked as they responded:

As the situation progressed, Quint 27 headed to the roof while Squad 26 and Tower 25 supported the efforts on the ground:

It’s been an intense afternoon with multiple calls related to the storm. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported so far. I’ll keep you updated if there’s any new information.
