Southwest Research Institute Launches Energy Storage System Security and Evaluation Alliance Collaborative Research Project

A battery energy storage system for electric and hybrid vehicles, safety and reliability assessment, and a cost-effective research cooperation program will be established at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in the US .

The establishment of the four-year energy storage system safety and assessment (EssEs) alliance hopes to help vehicle manufacturers and battery suppliers to develop pre-competition detailed experiments based on the existing brand of electronic chemical energy storage system products. Room level test data to enhance the transparency of the automotive battery market and promote the development of energy storage systems. It will carry out and promote the study of battery test and analysis methods, which will enable faster, more economical, and more effective testing.

"The EssEs Alliance will play a key role in the future of the United States and even the world's hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle market and industry development," said Dr. Surampudi, Southwestern Research Institute, as a division of the Engine, Emissions and Vehicles Research Branch. Chief Engineer, he was appointed project manager of this newly established research consortium. He said: "At present, the hybrid and electric vehicle industry has developed to a certain level. The current market demand has increasingly focused on the product safety, reliability and cost-effectiveness of energy storage systems."

Directly using data from tests conducted by the alliance’s reliable third-party independent labs helps manufacturers free up equipment and resources so they can focus on product development rather than battery evaluation. Battery pack manufacturers will be able to use part of the test results obtained by the Alliance in their marketing and promotional activities.

"Today's high-speed advanced battery technology has made manufacturers face the challenge of how to evaluate the batteries in the existing market, how to make the final decision, select the appropriate power, life cycle battery pack, and apply to different categories. On electric or hybrid vehicles,” added Mr. Clyde, engineer at the SwRI Engine, Emissions and Vehicles Research Branch. The project will perform tests on battery performance, damage, life, and sustainability on battery packs selected by members, and improve test methods to make them more efficient and effective, which will greatly increase cost-effectiveness.

The EssEs Research Alliance will provide manufacturers of battery energy storage systems with the means to open up international markets, standardized testing of first-class independent third-party laboratories, and increase the confidence of international market participants. It is reported that some North American, South Korean and Chinese manufacturers have expressed their intention to participate. In addition, SwRI has extensive and long-term experience in the operation and management of coalition projects, including alliances such as clean diesel and high-efficiency lean-burn gasoline engines, which help engine manufacturers solve technical problems such as advance pre-ignition.

Hydraulic Breaker

MKB Silenced Type Breaker uses advanced oil circuit system, featuring less oil consumption, convenient adjustment and high work efficiency. The whole equipment also features advanced design, simple structure, fewer components, low trouble rate and easy maintenance.

The use of hydraulic crushing hammer for excavators: it is to use high frequency impact to break large and hard brittle objects, such as building concrete, large stones, concrete roads and so on.
The principle is: the high-speed rotation of the hydraulic motor (pressure oil is supplied by the excavator), so that the crushing hammer produces high frequency impact, to achieve the purpose of crushing objects.
