SMEs should not neglect social responsibility

In May of last year, following the blue algae outbreak in Taihu Lake, several small and medium-sized chemical companies in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces were forced to shut down. Although the incident was not directly caused by these companies, it serves as a wake-up call for them to reflect on their environmental practices. Over the years, large chemical corporations have generally made more progress in environmental protection. Due to their scale, their emissions of "three wastes" are naturally higher, which increases their social impact and makes them more visible to the public. As a result, some big companies have invested in desulfurization equipment and upgraded their wastewater treatment systems, taking initial but meaningful steps toward environmental responsibility. In contrast, many small-scale chemical plants still operate with outdated technology and lack adequate pollution control facilities. These businesses are often privately owned, with a strong focus on profit. Recently, while visiting remote areas in Hebei, Henan, and Shanxi, I observed that small chemical companies there continue to face serious environmental issues. During an interview with a fertilizer plant in Shenzhou, Hebei, local residents expressed concerns about pollution from the facility. A few days later, while visiting a coking company in Shijiazhuang, I met with locals who also reported similar problems. At noon, I saw thick yellow smoke coming from the company’s chimney, indicating it was operating, but likely emitting pollutants beyond acceptable limits. These polluting small enterprises are often located far from rivers, lakes, and urban centers, making them less visible to the public. However, their excessive emissions have led to numerous complaints and even petitions from affected residents. Many of these small businesses serve as key financial contributors to local counties and townships, leading local governments to turn a blind eye or even protect them. Despite public complaints and media exposure, these polluting firms continue to operate, often under the guise of "survival." However, this approach is unsustainable. With the country increasingly prioritizing environmental protection, small businesses that ignore their social responsibilities will eventually face decline. For those looking to survive and grow, taking proactive measures to address pollution is no longer optional—it's essential.

There are several types of adhesive that can be used for shoes, depending on the material and the type of repair needed. Here are some commonly used adhesives for shoes:
1. Shoe glue: This is a specialized adhesive designed specifically for shoe repairs. It is commonly used for bonding different shoe materials, such as leather, rubber, fabric, and vinyl. Shoe glue is flexible, durable, and waterproof.
2. Super glue: Also known as cyanoacrylate adhesive, super glue is a strong and fast-drying adhesive that can bond various materials, including shoes. However, it may not be suitable for all shoe materials, and it can become brittle over time.
3. Epoxy adhesive: Epoxy is a two-part adhesive that provides a strong and durable bond. It is commonly used for repairing soles, heels, and other shoe parts. Epoxy adhesive requires mixing the resin and hardener before application.
4. Contact cement: Contact cement is a strong adhesive that creates a bond when two surfaces are pressed together. It is commonly used for shoe repairs, especially for attaching soles. Contact cement is available in both water-based and solvent-based formulas.
5. Shoe repair tape: In some cases, shoe repair tape can be used as a temporary solution for minor repairs. It is a self-adhesive tape that can provide a quick fix until a proper repair can be done.
When using any adhesive for shoe repairs, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and ensure proper ventilation. Additionally, it is recommended to clean and prepare the surfaces to be bonded for better adhesion.
