A brand-new motor oil grade, SAE 16, is set to debut in the passenger car market and has already been approved for use across all new Toyota passenger car models. This innovative oil grade is expected to enhance fuel efficiency, potentially boosting miles per gallon (MPG) performance in these vehicles.

Traditionally, one of the most widely used oil grades in Europe is SAE 15W-40, commonly found in heavy-duty diesel trucks and passenger diesel vehicles. With the introduction of SAE 16, there’s now the possibility of stepping down in increments of four—SAE 12, 8, or even 4—instead of fives. This change in numbering also allows SAE to retain its distinct high- and low-temperature ratings, where the latter uses the "W" to signify "winter."
