The Glenview Fire Department recently welcomed two new 2010 Pierce Arrow XT engines, which were previously mentioned in our archives. These units, delivered on the Arrow XT chassis, are now part of the department’s fleet, though Engine 6 is still awaiting radio installation before it can be officially put into service. Engine 7 received a new Pierce Arrow XT unit with serial number 23701, while the former Engine 7, a Pierce Enforcer (SN 17393), has been reclassified as Engine 13.
In a post from last July, we highlighted that Glenview had ordered these two Arrow XT engines. One was intended to match Engine 8, a rescue-style Arrow XT, and the other was meant to align with Engines 6 and 7 with a standard pumper body. The delivery photo of Engine 7 shows a unit similar to Engine 8, but recent photos reveal it has a standard pumper configuration, not the rescue body seen in the original images.
A recent shot of Engine 7 confirms this, showing it with a pumper body that matches the older Pierce Enforcers in the fleet. Meanwhile, Engine 13 now operates the former Engine 7, a 2006 Pierce Enforcer (SN 17393), which replaced an older 1990 Pierce Lance engine that will soon be retired.
There are several notable differences between the new Arrow XT and the older Enforcer models. The new unit features a painted steel bumper instead of chrome, barrier-style short cab doors, a full LED light bar, and a longer hosebed with a flush rear design. It also includes a 1,500-GPM pump and foam tanks with capacities of 10 and 40 gallons, replacing the previous dual 25-gallon tanks. Additionally, Engine 13 now sports chevron striping on its chrome bumper, adding a distinctive visual touch.
One interesting detail for fire apparatus enthusiasts is the inclusion of tank capacity labels on the pump panel of the new units. This makes it easier to identify water and foam tank sizes without guesswork—a feature that was notably absent on most older rigs. This innovation was also seen at the FDIC trade show in Indianapolis, suggesting a potential new trend among manufacturers. For historians and photographers, this level of transparency is a welcome improvement and adds value to the documentation of fire apparatus.
