The Glenview Fire Department recently welcomed two new 2010 Pierce Arrow XT engines, which were previously mentioned in this post. Engine 6 is still awaiting the installation of its radios and has not yet been put into service. Meanwhile, Engine 7 received a brand-new Pierce Arrow XT unit with serial number 23701, while the department’s older Pierce Enforcer (serial number 17393) was reclassified as Engine 13.
In a post from last July, we reported that Glenview had ordered these two new Arrow XT units. One was intended to replace Engine 8, a Pierce Arrow XT equipped with a rescue-style body, and the other was meant to match Engines 6 and 7 with a standard pumper configuration.
Here’s a recent photo of Engine 7, a 2010 Pierce Arrow XT, which appears similar to Engine 8 in design but features a standard pumper body rather than a rescue configuration. This image was shared by Larry Shapiro.
Another shot shows Engine 13, which now runs the 2006 Pierce Enforcer that used to be assigned to Engine 7. This unit replaced an older 1990 Pierce Lance engine, which is set to be decommissioned.
Compared to the older Enforcer models, the new Arrow XT for Engine 7 includes several notable upgrades: a painted steel bumper instead of chrome, barrier-style short cab doors, a full LED light bar, a longer hosebed, and a flush rear body design. The new unit also features a 1,500-GPM pump, along with foam tanks of 10 and 40 gallons, replacing the previous dual 25-gallon tanks. Additionally, Engine 13 now sports chevron striping on its chrome bumper, adding a distinctive visual touch.
A close-up of Engine 7 (SN 17393) before the chevron decals were added shows the original chrome bumper, highlighting the transformation the unit has undergone.
As noted in the editor's note, one unique feature of the new apparatus is the inclusion of tank capacity labels on the pump panel—clearly showing both water and foam tank sizes. This is a welcome improvement, as it eliminates the need for guesswork and aligns with a trend seen at the FDIC trade show in Indianapolis. It seems manufacturers are starting to prioritize transparency in rig specifications, which is great news for firefighters, photographers, and historians alike.
