In recent years, China has become the world tire production and consumption of superpower, but also scrap tires generated power. At present, China's rubber consumption accounts for about 30% of the world's total rubber consumption, ranking first in the world for many years. According to incomplete statistics, in 2015 China produced about 300 million waste tires and weighed about 10 million tons. Therefore, it is particularly important to speed up the construction of a recycling system for used tires in China, accelerate the research and development of used tire retreading and recycling technologies in line with national conditions, and continuously improve the comprehensive utilization level of used tires.

At the meeting, both parties actively discussed and interacted on environmental protection and waste tire management topics in large cities. And initially reached three points of intention. First, establish a business model of “tire + fleet management” in the solid waste stream. Second, Michelin will consider the distribution needs of Beijing sanitation in its development plan for the retreading tire business. Third, it will use scrap tires. For the processing of raw materials and production of reclaimed rubber, both parties reached consensus on the technical level. The two parties stated that they will promote the collaboration project as soon as possible and set an industry benchmark for future promotion to more cities.
