With the launch of a new ethylene plant construction project, the capacity to produce styrene-butadiene rubber, polybutadiene rubber and styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymer (SBS) will increase significantly. Since 2006, one or several large-scale synthetic rubber units have been built and put into operation each year in the country. In 2006, Gaoqiao Petrochemical Company's 100kt/a solution-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (including low cis-polybutadiene rubber about 60kt/a) and Baling Petrochemical Company's 20 kt/a hydrogenated SBS units were completed and put into production; 2007 The 100kt/a styrene-butadiene rubber plant of Nanjing Yangzi Petrochemical Jinpu Rubber Co., Ltd. has been completed and put into production. In 2008, Lanzhou Petrochemical Company 100kt/a styrene-butadiene rubber, Bridgestone (Huizhou) 50kt/a styrene-butadiene rubber, Taiwan Lichangrong company 100kt/ ASBS and other devices will be completed and put into production; 2009 Dushanzi Petrochemical Company 180kt/a styrene-butadiene rubber and other devices will be completed and put into production. In addition, Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Company 30kt/a halogenated butyl rubber project and Baling Petrochemical Company, Maoming Ethylene Industry Company's SBS expansion project, Jilin Petrochemical Company's expansion of 50kt/a ethylene propylene rubber unit, and Shanxi Chemical Industry Group (joint venture) The 30kt/a hydrogenated SBS plant of CNPC has plans for the construction of a new synthetic rubber plant in Fushun, Sichuan and Daqing.

The total capacity of the above-mentioned equipment under construction and planning amounts to over 1 million tons, and the capacity of the national basic rubber equipment for synthetic rubber will also increase from 1,260kt in 2006 to 1,880-2,140kt in 2010.
