Domestic cotton tester batch equipment is only the first step in localization of cotton inspection instruments. We must strive to innovate and continuously improve the performance of the instrument. According to reports, the development of a domestically-made cotton tester is one of the main tasks of the reform of the cotton quality inspection system approved by the State Council in 2003. The reform of the cotton quality inspection system requires a large number of cotton detectors, while the imported instruments and equipment have high prices, high spare parts prices, long spare parts supply cycles, local maintenance quality cannot be guaranteed, and maintenance costs are high. In October 2003, Shaanxi Changling Textile Electromechanical Technology Co., Ltd. organized by China Fiber Inspection Bureau began to develop cotton comprehensive performance tester. Changling Company drew on the development experience of domestic cotton single-index test instruments, and effectively solved key technologies such as color test modules, large-area silicon photocells, sampling comb clamps, index algorithms, and correction model establishment.

At the beginning of 2008, the first prototype of the domestic cotton tester began its validation test and was improved by application. It proved that the domestic cotton tester reached the level of similar imported equipment. In 2010, domestic cotton testers passed the scientific research results of the AQSIQ. As of April 2013, 12 home-made cotton testers deployed across the country have cumulatively inspected 100,000 tons of cotton.
