Commercial Vehicles Blow “Green Wind” Energy Saving and Emission Reduction into System Engineering

At the Beijing Auto Show, it's no longer surprising to see automakers promoting "environmental protection." However, this year, commercial vehicle companies have taken the spotlight by showcasing energy-efficient and eco-friendly models and technologies on an unprecedented scale. It seems that this year’s event has set a new record for the most environmentally focused exhibition in recent years. Models like Nanjing Iveco PowerDaily, Baodi Zero Emissions Electric Vehicle, Hongyan Natural Gas Heavy Duty Truck, and Futian Hybrid Bus are now central to the development of commercial vehicles in 2008. In terms of sales, the State III model has become a major driver in the domestic commercial vehicle market. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, sales in the first quarter of 2008 surged by 24.1%, reaching 727,600 units. The National III standard has emerged as the key highlight of the market. For example, Jinbei, a leader in the economy passenger segment, launched its 08 Sea Lion campaign, equipped with the upgraded XG4G20D4 III engine. This helped Jinbei achieve a 25.4% market share. Meanwhile, in the high-end segment, Iveco’s State III light passengers have seen steady growth since the implementation of stricter emission standards at the end of last year. Nanjing Iveco sold 6,628 light passengers in the first quarter, up 13% compared to the same period last year. An insider from the company noted that in regions with stricter emissions rules, the sales growth is even more pronounced, reflecting strong consumer demand for National III models. However, meeting the National III standard is not the only factor users should consider. Lin Wei, Secretary-General of the China Light Vehicle Joint Analysis Association, emphasized that while compliance with emission standards is essential, it is not sufficient. Users should also evaluate a vehicle’s performance, fuel efficiency, and safety. Some manufacturers are focusing on reducing fuel consumption by lowering engine power or using lighter materials, but these approaches can compromise driving performance, especially under heavy loads or when climbing. As Lin pointed out, reducing weight may even affect safety, which is irresponsible for users. Energy conservation and emission reduction have evolved into a comprehensive system. Companies with advanced technology are now capable of producing vehicles that meet low-emission, high-power, low-fuel-consumption, and high-reliability standards. Nanjing Iveco has long been a leader in this field. The Torino series, introduced in 2004, remains one of the most popular and reliable State III diesel light passenger vehicles. At the Beijing Auto Show, Iveco unveiled the PowerDaily, a China National IV Lightbus model fully aligned with European standards, marking a significant milestone in commercial vehicle energy efficiency. The PowerDaily features the F1C engine, based on the Euro IV platform and capable of being upgraded to Euro V. With a maximum power of 107 kW, it uses Bosch’s second-generation high-pressure common rail system to optimize fuel combustion, reducing fuel consumption by 10% without sacrificing power. Even more impressively, 90% of the engine’s materials are recyclable. According to Zhou Weili, General Manager of Nanjing Iveco, the PowerDaily sets a new benchmark for environmental awareness in both design and manufacturing. As Zhao Ming, Secretary-General of the Energy Conservation Service Industry Committee of the China Energy Conservation Association, stated at the 2008 Beijing Motor Show, “China is about to enter a market with tens of millions of cars, and energy consumption will be a critical issue. Nanjing Iveco’s proactive approach in environmental protection during design, supply, and manufacturing has significantly contributed to the advancement of energy-saving and emission reduction efforts in the commercial vehicle sector.”

Chain Conveyor

QUANTUM En Masse and Drag Chain Conveyors are used to convey powdery and granulated products across a range of inclined and vertical installations.

QUANTUM utilizes drop-forged links with case hardened pins, or standard conveyor chains depending on the material to be conveyed & the application.

The conveyor length is limited by the capacity and chain speed, but lengths of 100m and more are not uncommon, with capacities over 600t/hr.

The standard range of QUANTUM En Masse Conveyors comes in 2 grades:

• Light: (QCL Range, specifically designed for typical products Grain , flour, stock feed pellets, paper, pulp-> Specific gravity 750kg/m3)

• Heavy: (QCH Range, specifically designed for Cement, fly ash, sand, woodchips, biomass, coal powder -> Specific gravity 1500kg/m3)

All ranges span from 190-1000mm wide, come with single or dual chain options and have a variety of standard attachments to suit the application. For Bin discharge, we provide multiple strand chain & specially designed hoppers for constant & even emptying.

QUANTUM can provide customized designs, including for high temperature applications and all conveyor arrangement can be designed into horizontal or inclined layout.
