From what I gathered from Jeff Rudolph:
---
April 13, 2018, Antioch, IL
I happened to be nearby when I saw a significant amount of smoke coming from Whiskey Janes Bar located at 25196 W. Rt. 173. As soon as we arrived, it was clear that there was moderate to heavy smoke billowing out of the entire building. Unfortunately, this area doesn’t have fire hydrants, so getting water on the scene quickly became a priority.
Command had already called for additional resources, including tankers from Lake Villa, Fox Lake, and Spring Grove, along with a ladder truck from Round Lake and a squad from Newport. It didn’t take long for the teams to locate the source of the fire, which appeared to have originated in an HVAC unit. The firefighters worked efficiently and managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread further.
It’s always reassuring to see how well-coordinated these emergency responses can be, especially when everyone involved is on the same page. From where I stood, it looked like the crew did an excellent job containing the situation without much delay.
Here are some photos I took during the incident. You can really see the scale of the response effort in one shot—the Fox Lake Fire District’s tanker was massive compared to the surrounding vehicles. Another image shows the extent of the damage to Whiskey Janes Bar, while others capture the Antioch Fire Department’s engine arriving to assist.

The whole event unfolded pretty quickly, but it reminded me just how crucial it is to have trained professionals ready to handle emergencies like this. Props to everyone who helped keep things under control!
