The Bartlett Fire District serves the Village of Bartlett, as well as unincorporated areas of Hoffman Estates and parts of Wayne Township. This unique setup places their jurisdiction across two counties—Cook and DuPage. The department is dispatched through DU-COMM but is also a member of MABAS Division 2. Bartlett has three fire stations: two are staffed with an ambulance and an engine, while the third houses a jump unit equipped with a tower ladder, a 3,000-gallon tanker (tender), and a brush truck. Over the years, the apparatus have been painted black over red, though they were once bright yellow. One notable example is a 1993 Seagrave engine that was originally delivered in yellow and later repainted to its current black-and-red scheme.
The latest additions to the fleet are three Pierce Velocity engines. Before that, Bartlett had two E-ONE units, which followed a pair of Seagrave engines. In the 1980s and earlier, the department, then known as Bartlett and Countryside Fire Protection District, acquired engines from Howe and Grumman.
Among the historical vehicles in the collection is a 1993 Seagrave TB30DF 1000/750 TM (serial number 78589) that has since been decommissioned and is now for sale. Originally painted yellow, this unit reflects the department’s evolving aesthetic. Another vintage piece is Engine 612, which was delivered in 1993 and was one of two similar Seagrave engines. The other was delivered in 1991, both featuring a 1,000-GPM pump and 750-gallon water tank.
Before the Seagraves, Bartlett operated two Ford C8000 chassis-based Grumman FireCat units, built on Howe bodies. These were delivered in 1982 and featured 1,000-GPM pumps and 750-gallon tanks. Earlier still, the department had a pair of Hendrickson 1871S/International/Howe TM engines, each with a 1,000-GPM pump and 750 gallons of water. One of these, Engine 613, was delivered in 1977, while the other, Engine 612, arrived in 1973. Engine 612 had high-side compartments, distinguishing it from its sister unit.
Even older is the 1963 Ford C950/Howe engine #616, which had a 1,000-GPM pump and carried 800 gallons of water. This classic unit highlights the long history of firefighting in Bartlett.
Another significant piece in the fleet is the 1997 HME/US 3,000-gallon tender, one of only three in the area, shared with Palatine Rural FPD and East Dundee FPD. All three units responded to a major fire in Barrington in September 2008. A 1994 8,000-gallon tractor-trailer tanker, previously used by Bartlett, was replaced by the HME unit. This early tanker, powered by an L-Series Ford tractor, was seen in action during a large-scale fire at Pepper Road and Route 14 in November 1994.
These historic and modern units reflect the evolution of Bartlett Fire Department's equipment and response capabilities over decades.
