Amada and Amada Cutting develop successful flutterless band saws

Amada and Amada Cutting have developed the "PCSAW Series" level-down band saw with a pulse vibration to control the tool and eliminate chatter to reduce the noise from 95dB(A) to 85dB(A). It is scheduled to be launched in the fall of 2005. The product line includes the "PCSAW700" which can cut up to 700mm diameter and angle and the "PCSAW330" which can cut the diameter of 330mm. The former has shortened the time to cut 400mm stainless steel 304 round material from 60 minutes in the past 60 minutes.

While the pulse vibration is applied, the rotational speed of the drive wheel is controlled, and this pulse vibration is transmitted to the driven wheel through the cutter. In the vibration region where the phase difference between the driving and the driven wheels is 180 degrees, since the vibrations cancel each other, a region that does not vibrate is generated at the center of the tool. This allows the tool to vibrate.

The PCSAW700 also applies pulse vibration to the up and down motion of the blade. In this way, the blade will continue to cut, while repeating the moment to leave the material and then quickly drop the cutting action. This can reduce the cutting resistance.

Since the cutter of the band saw has a strip shape, it is susceptible to variations in cutting resistance. As the size of the mold increases and the number of difficult-to-cut materials as the workpiece is gradually increased, it is necessary to reduce flutter and reduce noise.
