Alcoa Starts Expansion of US Plant Completed in 2015

Alcoa Inc. recently announced that its plant in Tennessee, United States, had groundbreaking ceremony on August 29th and will carry out an expansion project with an investment of 275 million U.S. dollars to meet the rapid increase in demand for aluminum materials in the automotive industry.

The expansion project for the Tennessee plant is expected to be completed in mid-2015, when the plant will add 200 full-time jobs, and during the implementation of this project will also create 400 construction jobs.

Alcoa Chairman and CEO Klaus Kleinfeld said: “More and more automakers are starting to adopt aluminum materials to improve the quality and fuel economy of automobiles. We expect to see automotive aluminum plates by 2015. The sales volume will quadruple and will increase 10 times by 2025."

Alcoa announced the expansion in early May 2013. Prior to this announcement, the company announced in September 2011 that it would invest US$300 million in its Davenport plant in Iowa. The funds are used to expand the production capacity of automotive-related products, and this project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
