3-11 Alarm fire in Chicago 7-1-13 (more)

Here's more from Steve Redick on the 3-11 alarm fire in Chicago on July 1st, 2013:

After a long and intense firefighting effort, it was decided to shut down the master streams and let the fire burn through the roof area to create better access for firefighters. This was done in a visually striking way, and shortly after, the truss addition collapsed suddenly. I didn’t capture the actual collapse, but if you look closely at the before and after photos, you can see the difference. The reserve snorkel was called in and put into action — always a fascinating scene to photograph. At this point, a 3-11 alarm was requested because no companies were left in staging, though I suspect none were actually deployed. I took another panoramic shot, and as Denny McGuire noted, it was unique to see two snorkels and two tower ladders (both from HME) operating simultaneously. I left the scene shortly after and got a nice view of Engine 1 arriving at its new quarters at 53 E. Pershing — I didn’t take a photo, though. Hope you found the photos and video interesting and informative.
